Frock Spot on: Jash by Jacquelyn Harverson

Here at Frocktober Canberra, we are currently immersed in some of the most amazing frocks we've seen in Canberra for a while. That's right we are heading towards "An Evening Frocktacular" our fashion parade being held this Thursday 7 October at the Black Opal Room of Thoroughbred Park.  (Tickets still available from the Frock Fringe.)

To share a little bit of our backstage excitement, we thought we'd shine a spotlight on several of the amazing designers being shown so we sat down for a little chat.

We're kicking off with Jash by Jacquelyn Harverson.  This Canberra based designer has a strong point of view and really celebrate the diversity of women in her designs.

What is your favourite thing about fashion in Canberra?

The thing that I love the most about fashion in Canberra is that even though we have a very minimal fashion industry here, the local talent is embraced and appreciated. Although the working fashion population is small, we don’t compete with one another like in bigger cities but instead work together to promote fashion as a way of identifying with yourself and your own personal image, however you may want to create it. I love being able to walk through the city and see people twist mainstream looks to become their own.

Do you have a favourite frock?  Why is it your favourite?

My Favourite frock would have to be a little summer shift that I bought from Mogo years back. The design is very simple with a tank style bodice and slightly A-line skirt sitting just above the knee. The beauty of it is the pattern; it is gorgeous and warm with hues of pink, orange, yellow and brown. Wearing it makes me feel confident and fresh and always puts me in a fun loving, summer day’s mood.

What made you become a designer?

Clothing is an outward expression of who we are as individuals, and how we want the world to know us. Confidence ultimately comes from with-in, however putting on beautiful garments can help this even more, and gives emotion to the wearer and the situation. Designing cocktail attire, and working one on one with bridal and evening-wear clients, I have the pleasure of creating a feeling of confidence, elegance and a little sexiness for all of my clients through my designing. I became a designer to embrace my own expression and to use it to empower the women of Australia.

What is your main message to women for this season?

Shallows Draped Mini

Be confident with-in yourself and you are sure to look amazing everyday! Realise the beauty of your features and embrace them with your garment choices. The power of femininity is really making a comeback, so get into the fresh dresses for work and play this season.
