Shining a Frock Spot on: Amy Dunham

Here at Frocktober Canberra, we thought it was time to shine the Frock Spot on some of the amazing Frockettes who are doing their bit this Frocktober and raising funds for the OCRF.  We're kicking off with the lovely and amazingly charming Amy Dunham, currently sitting in prime position as the number one fundraiser on our Everyday Hero site.

We've asked nine of our top ten Frockettes a series of questions that really illuminate these amazing women and why they've chosen to get their Frock on!

Describe yourself in a couple of sentences.

Fun, ridiculous and short

Why Frocktober?  What made you choose to be involved?

Frocktober originally was on my mind as I am a good friend of the divine Miss Amy Moon (Note: Frocktober Canberra Chair). She was (as always) pouring her whole heart into it and it's such an important issue to be raising money and awareness for. I decided to do the 31 day dress challenge and get people to bid on 15 of my 31 dresses, with the full amount going to my Frocktober challenge page too, as a way of extra fundraising and cleaning out my clearly over flowing cupboard!

Do you have a personal story or connection with Ovarian Cancer?

I have had my ovaries looked at many times being a sufferer of Ovarian cysts and endometriosis, and leading up to Frocktober I had them looked at many times. The fact that there is no early detection test is very frightening, and as a woman especially I knew this was something that would worry me unless I did my very best to help out.

What has been the best thing so far for you about the month?

This month I have felt so blessed and lucky every time a kind friend has donated to this amazing cause. Knowing I am making a difference simply by wearing lovely dresses and advertising the cause, has been and will continue to be a wonderful feeling. The events have been fun and involving my girlfriends, my Mum, my Sister (as well as my father and partner) has been a real treat. I love getting dressed up and trying out new themes with my dresses- and people have been responding with comments, and of course donations, as well as coming along to events with me. The whole month has been so fun and I feel so lucky to be a part of it!

Is there a favourite frock in your wardrobe?  Why is it your favourite? How does it make you feel?

I have a few amazing ones still to come, so stay tuned via Frocktober Canberra, Everyday Hero and my facebook Frocktober album...But the best one so far has been my Gold textured mini dress that I wore with a gold head piece to the Fashion show! I got lots of people commenting on it, so I felt like a Princess in it!

What's your message for the month?

Do get changes in your body checked. We should all get to know our bodies as best as we can and we should remember to celebrate them...be that with yummy and healthy food, dancing your bum off, or feeling amazing in a beautiful frock at any shape and size. Get involved and HAVE FUN with everything you do in life.

You can sponsor Amy here.  Feel free to leave her a message of support on the wall of our Facebook group as well.
